The exhibition will be part of the Asian Dynamics Initiative 2017 International Conference

The goal of the exhibition is to use images to reflect the superdiversity that exists on the vast continent of Asia, keeping the conference theme – Asia in CIrculations – in mind

“We attend to the ways in which new connected histories, flows and connections both within, and beyond, territoriality are taking shape. What kind of circulatory worlds are produced through these multiple connections forged across temporalities via commodity trade, investments, human migration, technology, tourism, religion, art, literature and other forms of cultural consumption? How has Asia historically circulated beyond its territorial boundaries? And how do these circulations shape the contemporary world?”

After checking the spaces at the University we decided to re-think the way that we display the exhibition. Bearing in mind the main goal of the conference and the circulatory flows of connecting histories, we decided to have the exhibition in one compact area using the space at the Social Science Faculty Library on Gothersgade, a stone’s throw from the buildings where the conference will take place. There is space to exhibit 17 people’s work.

About the Exhibition

Curator: Angélique Sanossian

Air flows through large openings in buildings, as well as through culture and civilization and human intellect. Different civilizations have built houses with separate exits and entrances, sometimes creating opportunities, sometimes creating barriers; even human intellect at times  makes it difficult to open doors yet at the same time it facilitates the circulation of new ideas. We have come up with a concept of using all the doors in the Social Science Faculty Library to display images in an exhibition entitled Walking Through the Open Door. Using the doors to display the artwork links to the idea of doors as a symbol of connecting civilizations and history.

All kinds of visual work will be accepted: graphics, photography, painting etc. and must be printed on paper.

Before you apply:
