In 2016 IMMART was known as Immigrant Art. Our very first community project was an arts festival called Artival. Artival is a celebration of the diversity among foreign artists living in Denmark. It is also about bringing people and places together: the artists, the general public, people from the street, public spaces and also existing artistic spaces.
The exhibiting artists originate from across the globe – from Europe to South America, and East to West Asia. Some of the 17 of the artists we exhibtied are in Denmark by choice and others are here because they were forced to leave their home country. They are united in their passion and skill for creating art, traits which transcend their immigrant identity.
Poetry, photography, painting, drawing, art talks, music and a kids artistic workshop were all included in the festival program with events held in Vesterbro, Vanløse, Frederiksberg and the city center, at cafés, galleries, churches, on public squares and in other institutions. we had over 250 visitors/guests.
